Bio:

Devon Lee (they/them) (b. 2007) is a student composer and double bassist from New York. They have written music for chamber, voice, orchestra, electronics, and film, drawing inspiration from nature and folk music/culture (especially that of their home country, South Korea). Devon loves to tell small scale stories about both human and nonhuman subjects, focusing on illuminating the world of colors and storylines in ordinary things.

Devon has had their music premiered by organizations like the New York Philharmonic, The Juilliard School, The Knights, ChamberQUEER, WQXR, Chanticleer, and the New York Festival of Song. As a bassist, Devon has performed alongside Jessie Montgomery and the Everything Band, and recorded with the ensemble as well. Devon graduated from the Special Music School in 2026, and is an alum of the New York Youth Symphony, Luna Composition Lab, and Juilliard Pre-college and Music Advancement Program.

They were 2025 finalist for the Morton Gould Young Composers Award, recipient of the BMI Kavi Ohri Memorial Scholarship in 2026, and a Frederick Loewe Scholar at the Kaufman Music Center. Devon studied composition with Daniel Felsenfeld and Max Grafe, and double bass with Tim Cobb. This fall, Devon will be starting at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music majoring in Composition with a Concentration in Double Bass.
